Michael Ross is the Senior
Vice President in charge of product development and marketing for
Encyclopaedia Britannica. Prior to joining Britannica in 2003, he
was the Executive Vice President and Publisher for World Book, Inc.,
where he headed all worldwide print and electronic publishing, including
acquisitions, joint ventures, and licensing arrangements. Earlier
in his career he had senior-level positions at NTC Publishing Group
and McDougal Littel. He began his publishing career as an editor
for Time-Life Books in Tokyo.
From 2002 to 2003 he was president of the board of directors of
the Association of Educational Publishers and has served on the
AEP board for four years. He is also on the boards of Indraweb,
a Web searching company, and SoftPro3, an educational technology
company. He is a member of the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations,
the Direct Selling Education Foundation, and the Chicago Book Clinic.
He has contributed to several industry publications, including the
Experts’ Guide to the K-12 School Market, and has spoken frequently
at international conferences on electronic publishing, strategic
alliances, and licensing. He is listed in Who’s Who in America,
and in October 2002 he was inducted into Printmedia’s Production
Executives’ Hall of Fame.
He has a B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Minnesota,
an M.A. from Brandeis Unversity, and a certificate from Stanford
University’s Advanced Management College. He is married with
three children.
